Carnival

As summer comes to its last days, I went to visit the quintessential summer activity: The Carnival!

The usual rigged games. With inflation, these were really expensive!!

My son (he is 22) and I went to check out. It turns out that we are both too old to participate. I am still on my diet, so I couldn’t event take advantage of the carnival food. Everything looked really good and appetizing, but I stuck to my guns and I did not buy any food, even though this was advertised…

Undisputed!!! World’s Best Sundae

I was walking around with my trusty Fujifilm X100F.

These are JPEGS as I was trying the Kodachrome recipe from fujixweekly.com. I have been watching a lot of youTube videos about how wonderful the different recipes are, mainly on the X100V.

I don’t have the moola to upgrade to the next generation, and if you do, Fuji will probably come out with the X100VI right after I purchase it.

So I decided to try my hand at the Kodachrome simulation on the X100F. It’s not the X-Trans IV sensor, but the great advantage of the recipes from the website is that the recipes are subdivided by the type of sensor, so I used the one for the X-Trans III, that applies to my X100F. 👅

You should also note that they have an App for the phones that has all the recipes so you can do them on the fly and away from the computer.

Kodachrome lends itself beautifully to the colors you will find at a carnival.

The place was really crowded and when we got there it was almost sunset, so these fotos have lots of shadows.

I wish I could have waited at least for blue hour so I could take some photos of the lights on the attractions. Regrettably, my time was short as I need to go back home and tend to household chores.

There were also a lot of youngsters and little kids, and I was starting to look like the creepy Hispanic uncle with a camera taking pictures of kids at a fair.

I got a few ugly looks from people so I wanted to get out of there before someone got curious or “offended” that I was taking pictures of their kids (even though I was not. I was more interested in the structures, attractions and rides).

I was particularly fond of the cotton candy/popcorn stall, as you can probably tell

I love carnivals. There are so many photo opportunities.

I wish I had taken some of these as RAW images, as there were some that were on the dark side.

This was my own fault. I am so rusty taking pictures with this camera, that I did no notice that I had the exposure compensation dialed down to -1 EV.

I was able to rescue this one using Lightroom and Boris Optics FX and the new soon to come out Topaz Photo AI.

Overall, a great outing. My son got the change of enjoying the “Undisputed World’s Best Sundae” (he though it was terrific) and I came away with some nice snapshots for the blog.

I will make sure to get the cobwebs out of the all camera gear and myself for the next time…
