Lately, I have had some health issues... I have been to see my doctors and every test they throw at me says I am in perfect physical condition, albeit a little on the heavy side.
Still, I am sleeping really, really bad. Three to five hours every night.
My physician says it is all stress.
I never thought of myself as a stressful person. I am always cracking jokes and playing around with my children and my wife. They always say I am a clown, goofing around and making their lives a little lighter.
I guess is true what the commercials say: "Where does depression hurt?"
I have a lot of work at work. I am also taking fewer pictures and I am worrying about every little thing... The stupid weather is not helping. I have a bad case of S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I am cold all the time and I have not left the house for a long time. All things that I can change, but I can't find the stimulus to get out of the house. A sorta Double Bind situation...
Can I get better? I am sure I can. My mental disposition, my stubbornness, and my resolve will most likely sort out my state of mind, my stress, and my nascent depression.
This too, my friend, shall pass...
I went out to continue testing the Fuji X100F. Went with my family to the seashore in Stratford CT, on a cloudy day. We went over to Marnick's Restaurant for brunch and I took the opportunity to take some pictures of the empty beach.
Today the boys and I decided to try a local spot in the next town over (Stratford) called Cricket Car Hop. Is a fast food joint that was open for almost 45 years and that closed in 2004 when the owner died.
The new owner is a lady that worked there for a long time (she started when she was 15) and she decided to bring the place back to life.
It was such a nice day and we decided it was worth the drive.
Last time we went by the place it was jam packed to the gills so we went expecting long lines and long wait.
When we got there, there was no parking spaces inside so we had to park on the street. Inside there was about 40 people all waiting on their orders, but no lines at the counter.
We ordered an assortment of burgers and long dogs with fries and onion rings. To drink, milkshakes of course!
In reality, we waited around 20 minutes for our order and by that time, there were some open seats outside.
The were good, but not exceptional. I had better Dogs at Danny's or the Merrit Canteen in Bridgeport.
The boys liked their burgers and Fries, which come with no onion, tomatoes or lettuce.
The milkshakes were really good although their regular size is more of a small size.
All in all, a good spot for when you are close by and hungry. If you can stand the wait!
I also think the wait is going to die down once the novelty of the place wears off.
You can find Cricket Car Hop at 900 Access Road, Stratford, CT.
I had a great weekend. Saturday, we went to Short Beach Park in Stratford, Connecticut with my Brothers/Sister-in-law, their families, and mine. It was an early 4th of July celebration that my brother-in-law puts together every year. He invites friends and family to meet him at the beach where everybody brings something; potluck style!
There was a lot to eat and of course a lot to drink. We had sausages, hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, eggs, fruit salad, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes and to end the day we had a giant sirloin steak that Esedia and I bought and that it was cooked by my brother-in-law.
There was drinking (beer and mostly rum), dancing, singing and lots of cooks over four grills and under three tents.
Somehow the tents that were brought to the beach wind up been red, white and blue. Not planned, I swear.
There were people playing games and loud music. It started with Merengues and Bachatas, but then it quickly turned to rock, 80s music and finally hip-hop and Rap.
The weather held up for the most part. We have some periods of clouds and a brief shower that lasted about five minutes. Not even enough rain to soak the sand. The party continued on!!
The fireworks in Stratford had happened the day before (June 30th) and the beach was empty. I was a little glad because we tend to be a little noisy. ;-)
The sun finally came out and I think everybody there was at the time; trying to huddle up inside of the tents trying not to burn too much. Even though I applied some lotion the skin behind my neck and my arms was singed and I am still in pain.
We wind up coming home around 8:00 PM (from 11:00 AM) and everybody was so tired that we all went to bed sore and happier.
It was our second year going to the beach party and this year we had an awesome, awesome time.
Failed Drone Flight
I tried to fly my new drone (the fabulous DJI Spark) but It turns out that short beach park is right next to an airfield and because of that it is a restricted/no-fly zone. The worst part was that there was no sign of what the problem was. The DJI Go App kept saying "Can't take off" but I could not find where it says that I was on a no-fly zone.
I kept trying to do the Gestured Flights but the Spark refused to start. It finally dawned on me where I was and I was able to confirm it using the AirMap App on my phone.
I also took some 4k video with the Sony FDR-X3000 but I still haven't had time to process it. It looked good on the screen but I need to remove all the background music before I post it and get in trouble with the music police. I will try to post my videos and my impression of this wonderful action camera, soon.
These were all taken with the iPhone and processed with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom using the wonderful presets from Phototraces.
The flowers photo was taken at a local supermarket on our way to the beach.
