Luminar 3.1 Update

A couple of days ago, Skylum announce the update to his application Luminar 3 with Libraries, version 3.1.

The new version includes some performance improvements, some library updates and the addition on the Accent AI version 2.0.

Accent AI is a filter that uses artificial intelligence to modify photos and functions kind of like the Auto function on other applications like Lightroom, but with a little bit more control.

I am of the opinion that Luminar should not be compared to Photoshop or for that matter Lightroom. Photoshop and LR are photo editors. Luminar allows us to flex our creative muscles with their battery of filter, effects and looks.

Sure, Luminar can do some basic editing with the Crop, Erase, Clone/Stamp and free transform tools, but the beauty of the application is in the What-If!

What if I apply a Soft Focus filter? How about Orton Effect? The possibilities are endless.

This 55 filters and the ability to add layers make Luminar a wonderful development tray.

I had a small hiccup upgrading the application but was able to get past it (by creating a new catalog and losing all y edits) but those kind of things are to be expected, especially when you know that Skylum has an aggressive timetable to try and gain a bigger marketshare in the photo editor genre.

Overal, I am quite please with the application and can’t wait to see what’s in store for future releases.

You can get a copy of the new version by going to the Skylum website or if you already own the application, the update is free for you.

Download Free Luminar Presets - Social Looks

One of my new favorite programs is MacPhun Luminar. It is an extremely fast editor for photographs. This application was built from the ground up with the help of photographer and the Internet famous Trey Ratcliff.

As of the date of this article, the program only runs on MacOS, but MacPhun has promised to port the program to the Windows operating system in the near future.

If you are fed up with the slowness of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and you are looking for a fast and responsive alternative, give Luminar a try.

Even though there are other alternatives like OnOne RAW 2017 and Capture One, Luminar does the job and it does so in a no-frills way.

The program complements perfectly with some of the other offerings from the company like Tonality, Aurora HDR, and the CK Suite.

The program also offers a large number of Presets created by the company and some famous photographers as well. The presets are either free or within the $5-$10 dollar range.

You can buy Luminar for the flat fee of US$69. No monthly fees or subscriptions. The page also offers a trial that you can use to test the program and see if it fits your needs.

Even though I might not be a "famous photographer" I decided to create some presets for the program, which I am giving away totally FREE!!

These were created to simulate some of the presets that you see in applications like Instagram and VSCO. They were inspired by some youTube videos on the topic.

The presets are packed in a zip file that you can download using the link at the bottom of this page. Unzip them locally to a folder.

To install presets on your machine, just choose File > Show Presets Folder… in Luminar. Simply drag the new presets into your Presets Folder. All presets in this folder appear in the User category and the All Presets category.

For best results, restart Luminar to load all the new presets.

I sincerely hope you enjoy them and if you do, please leave a comment below letting me know if you will like to see more stuff like this.
