Nostalgia is such a powerful feeling…

In the 80s, I had a big enough collection of 45 and 33 ½ RPM records that I could easily be able to start a career in DJing.

In the D.R. the 33 ½ were called LPs (Long Play) and the 45s were just called that, 45.

My parents will give me an allowance of RD$5 every Friday and the next day, I will walk the three kilometers that separated my house from the nearest record store to buy at least two 45s and ice cream,

I will walk back home with the incredible anticipation of listening to the latest tune and the satisfaction of adding one more record to my collection.

Sometimes, you were lucky enough to get two good songs on a 45. Other times, you got what they called “The B Sides”. Songs that were not as good as the one on the “A Side” and you will wish for better luck next time.

On birthdays and Christmas, sometimes I will get an LP or the money to buy one.

Depending on the condition, these things have become collectibles, and people pay good money for some of them.

For me, it is all about the memories that each and one of the songs bring back to me. The small slivers of time come back in a neuron flash. Somehow, listening on Apple Music or any other online music service does not give me “The Feels”, like the cool kids nowadays say…
